Balance of power changed – luck now everything

‘The law of diminishing returns’, as Martin Brundle put it.

Red Bull’s car was so fast, streamlined, efficient, that they can only improve so much.

McLaren have made a huge leap forward.

Yet the season now depends on luck,

But for ONE wet corner, Lewis Hamilton would have won.

Belgium, Italy, Singapore, Japan, Korea, Abu Dhabi – Hamilton has proven that he is especially strong at these tracks in the past.

India is new, and in Brazil he has not previously excelled.

So McLaren have a hope of winning every race – yet, this IS racing.

Anything can happen. So for Vettel to be over-hauled in points, he needs car problems, and the other need the rub of the track; Safety cars, weather, tyre issues, temperatures, pit stops, other cars behaviour – a whole lot of luck is going to go into the fine margin of points from now on.
